Donald his spouse Patricia are living proof that it is possible to come to a country like Costa Rica and fulfill your dreams. Their deep love for nature and passion for animals gave birth to an ambitious family and tourism project: the creation of a finca they named Dontricia.
Since October 2022, when the property had only a typical casita to house a few employees, the finca has blossomed into a first-class facility. It now accommodates the couple, their family, and tourists eager to explore finca life and the breathtaking beauty of the majestic volcano.
Donald and Patricia believe that realizing such a dream is possible with ample courage and determination. Adapting to the local culture and supporting the community are crucial elements for acceptance by locals and successful integration.
After thoroughly exploring various areas, their natural choice was this picturesque community, less than 30 minutes from Liberia. Finca Dontricia offers visitors an authentic experience deeply rooted in the culture of Guanacaste, the land of the sabaneros.
The sabanero is an iconic figure in Guanacaste’s collective memory, known as the lord of the savannas, skillfully navigating the plains and mountains. Embracing this spirit, Dontricia offers horseback excursions, immersing visitors in the natural beauty and revealing the hidden treasures of the volcano, including numerous waterfalls and hot springs.
At the heart of this impressive volcano stand nine eruptive centers, including two volcanic cones each crowned by a crater: Von Seebach and Santa María, the latter reaching an altitude of 1,916 meters. With a colossal volume of 130 km³, Rincón de la Vieja is one of Costa Rica’s most imposing volcanoes.
At Finca Dontricia, visitors can also pick fresh fruits from ten different species of trees, gather organic eggs, and even milk cows in the morning.
The ranch is home to a variety of animals, adding a lively touch to the environment. Free-roaming chickens and ducks, biosecure cows and horses, and majestic horses in the stables, with dogs guarding the domain, all contribute to a vibrant farm life. Participating in farm activities, from milking cows to collecting eggs, offers a complete immersion into rural life, blending nature and animals.
