The Guanacaste International Airport (Daniel Oduber), located in Liberia, will temporarily close its operations starting this evening and continuing until at least tomorrow morning, Monday, November 18, at 6:00 a.m. A total of 11 flights have been affected by the new and sudden closure.
This decision was confirmed after passengers waiting at their boarding gate for Air Transat flight TS 301 reported the sudden cancellation of their flight due to newly discovered damage on the runway. The damage, caused by recent heavy rains, occurred despite repair work completed in recent days.
Earlier today, we announced the resumption of operations, but the airport administration has had to suspend flights again to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
Airport authorities strongly recommend that passengers stay in contact with their airlines for updates on rebooking or alternative arrangements.
We are closely monitoring this evolving situation and will keep you informed of further updates as they become available.
